Subject: Is Mike Wallace the Narrator?

(I learned a lot from this film-- and I had thought school was just about showing up!)

I am pretty certain the uncredited narrator of this film was Mike Wallace (CBS 60 Minutes). The voice is unmistakable.

The IMDB shows he was narrating other films for Coronet in 1947, and 1948: "Shy Guy" and "Improve Your Spelling."

The Wikipedia (as yet) does not mention these gigs-- seems Wallace was transitioning from radio to television at that time.

"Shy Guy" can be found here at the Internet Archive.

Subject: Work is hard
Very straightforward film about, yes, the benefits of studying. I always find classrooms during this time to be fasicinating, as it shows a harder work load for students, and when is the last time you've seen a study hall? Kid has to brush up on his civics studies! We see good examples of how to do it. No complaints about this one at all.

Subject: Not Really About "How To Study"
Rule Number 1: Shut the damn door when you come into the study hall late. Were you raised in a barn?

This is more about how to write a research paper then how to "study." The two week period makes this a minor writing assignment, and it's notable that the kid marks the due date as Easter Monday...when school is probably off for Easter vacation. Yippee...he probably gets an extra week! The letter he stuffs in the envelope to the labor relations board is dated January something?!! WTF?

The kid goes way overboard unless this is some private academy which is not evident from what I see. But then again, maybe school was more intense a decade and a half before my day.

Fifteen minutes may be OK for dummy physics but not enough for the real thing.
